Jaya Prada is a famous Indian actress and politician. She was born Lalitha Rani on 3 April 1962, in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh to Krishna Rao, a financier of Telugu films, and Neelaveni. She was also enrolled in dance and music classes by her mother from a young age.
Jaya has also worked in many Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi films. From 2004 to 2014, she has been an MP from Rampur. Even at the age of 14, she did a dance number during her school’s annual function. She was noticed by the director of the Telugu film Bhumi Kosam who offered her to do a 3-minute dance number in the film as well. At first, she was hesitant, but due to her family’s encouragement, she agreed to accept it as well.
She was also paid Rs 10 for her number, but this ultimately paved the way for a better and brighter future in the field of show business. The three-minute dance number was also showcased to the heavyweights of the Telugu film industry. She received many offers from leading directors and accepted them. In 1976, she became a major star, starring in major hits. Her dramatic skills in acting were appreciated by the late K.K. Jaya played a memorable role in the Telugu epic, mythological film, Seetha Kalyanam, and that showed her versatility as an actress. In the very next year, she acted in the box-office hit Adavi Ramudu. The film proved that she has star quality and the song, Aresukoboyi Paresukunnanu, which she composed for N.T. She was also cast by many prominent filmmakers in their films more than once. Director Vijay Anand, who also collaborated with Raaj Kumar, introduced him to the Kannada film industry through the 1977 blockbuster hit film, Sanadi Appana. It is the only film to have been performed by Ustad Bismillah Khan using the shehnai. In 1979 also she repeated her highly successful pairing with Raaj Kumar in the film Hulia Halina Mevu.
